April — deposits for hire shops

Take a deposit when someone hires an item, release it when it comes back, and charge only what's owed — always with a reason, never more than agreed.

• Card held, not charged. Customers pay the hire fee at checkout; the deposit is held on their card.
• Release or charge with a reason. Mark items returned, or charge for lateness or damage, and your customer is emailed every time.
• Never more than the deposit. A charge can never exceed what the customer agreed to at checkout.
